Ferrocene can be used as a rocket fuel additive, an anti knock agent for gasoline, a curing agent for rubber and silicone resin, and also as a UV absorber. Vinyl derivatives of ferrocene can undergo olefinic polymerization to obtain metal containing polymers with carbon chain skeletons, which can be used as outer coatings for spacecraft. The smoke reducing and combustion supporting effect of ferrocene was discovered earlier, and it can be achieved by adding it to solid fuel, liquid fuel, or gas fuel, especially for hydrocarbons that produce smoke during combustion. Its effect is more significant. It has a good seismic effect when added to gasoline, but it is limited due to the deposition of iron oxide on the spark plug, which affects ignition. Therefore, some people also use iron exhaust mixtures to reduce iron deposition. Ferrocene added to kerosene or diesel has less adverse effects as the engine does not require an ignition device. In addition to smoke suppression and combustion assistance, it also promotes the conversion of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide during combustion. In addition, it can increase combustion heat and power during combustion, achieving energy-saving and reducing atmospheric pollution. Adding ferrocene to boiler fuel oil can reduce smoke generation and nozzle carbon deposition. Adding 0.1% to diesel can reduce smoke by 30-70%, save fuel by 10-14%, and increase power by 10%. There are more reports on the use of ferrocene in solid rocket fuels, and even its use as a deceleration agent in coal powder. When using polymer waste as fuel, adding ferrocene can reduce smoke several times and can also be used as a smoke reducing additive for plastics. In addition to the above uses, ferrocene has other applications as an iron fertilizer, which is beneficial for plant absorption and increases the iron content of crops. Its derivatives can be used as insecticides. Ferrocene has many applications in industrial and organic synthesis. For example, its derivatives can be used as antioxidants for rubber or polyethylene, stabilizers for polyurea esters, catalysts for isobutene methylation, decomposition catalysts for polymer peroxides, increasing the yield of para chlorotoluene in toluene chlorination. In other aspects, it can also be used as anti load additives for lubricating oils and promoters for grinding materials.
